A whimsical tribute to a beloved beagle
Peanuts started in 1950 as a newspaper comic strip written and illustrated by California native Charles M. Schulz. The strip’s original run extended from 1950 to 2000, continuing in reruns afterwards, and in the process became a cultural touchstone, and one of the most popular and influential comic strips in history, centered around the life of young Charlie Brown and his loyal beagle, Snoopy.
As Seiko 5 celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2023, the venerable maker has partnered with Peanuts to produce a series of charming and capable limited edition sport watches, each with its own unique depiction of Snoopy carried over from original cartoon strips once featured in newspapers. The art on the caseback of this dive watch depicts Snoopy as a surfer who rides the waves, just as in the original art. The surfboard on the dial is an original Seiko 5 Sports design, lending the watch a unique feel that only the collaboration can achieve. Even Charles Schulz's own hand-drawn script is used throughout this reference, from the dial to the numerals on the bezel.
This Seiko 5 is powered by Seiko’s own 4R36 automatic movement with 41 hours of power reserve, and a day/date complication. Its crown bears a pawprint belonging to Snoopy, and its caseback bears the individual number of the piece, as well as an original Peanuts graphic.
